Beverley Gower-Jones, Clean Growth Fund’s founder and Managing Partner, has been appointed to the Government’s Net Zero Innovation Board, chaired by Sir Patrick Vallance, the Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser. Beverley joins the board as one of the Board’s four independent members.

Beverley was appointed after an open application process. Her position is not remunerated. Philip Taylor, Pro-Vice Chancellor Research & Enterprise at the University of Bristol has also been appointed.

The Net Zero Innovation Board provides strategic oversight of government funding of net zero innovation programmes. Established by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Board brings together senior representatives from across Whitehall, as well as non-departmental public bodies, with major net zero innovation budgets or related policy remits.

Sir Patrick Vallance said: “I am delighted that Beverley and Phil are joining the Net Zero Innovation Board as independent members. They will be valuable additions to the board.”

Beverley Gower-Jones said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to the NZIB.  Their work is incredibly important providing strategic direction and influencing spending decisions to ensure the Government’s Net Zero policies are delivered effectively.”

Beverley has worked in the energy and cleantech sectors for over 30 years and has a successful track record in early stage cleantech investments and commercialisation.  Her work has included providing incubation support and strategic consultancy to early-stage cleantech companies. In 2020, she established Clean Growth Fund to invest in the very best early stage cleantech companies in the UK. To date, the £101m Clean Growth Fund has invested in seven companies – active in energy, transport, heating, heavy industry and consumer products.

Prior to Clean Growth Fund and being CEO of Carbon Limiting Technologies, Beverley was a founder and Vice President of Shell Technology Ventures and was instrumental in Shell’s technology venturing strategy. Beverley is a Fellow of the Energy Institute.
